Mt. Crested Butte
While other area communities are valley dwellers looking up to the mountains, Mt. Crested Butte sits serenely above the town of Crested Butte and takes advantage of unobstructed mountain views and vistas in the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. Known as the queen jewel of the Elk Mountains, there are many choices for types of homes and properties within Mt. Crested Butte. There are ski in/ski out or walk to the lifts, condos and homes. If you are not directly on the slopes, there are also property options on the free bus that loops around the resort area homes for the added convenience of getting between the resort and downtown Crested Butte even. There are also many beautiful single family home options within this area and most find they enjoy a little more square footage and stunning mountain vistas over other areas such as downtown Crested Butte. The mountain, as we locals call it, offers tons of amenities such as access to Crested Butte Mountain Resort, biking and hiking trailheads like Snodgrass Mountain and the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in the old townsite of Gothic. Skiers and snowboarders will enjoy Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s 1547 skiable acres from beginner groomers to extreme terrain. Currently, there are fifteen chair lifts that service 2,775 vertical feet, 121 trails, state of the art terrain park and improved halfpipe perfect for all levels and abilities. For the longest ski run on the mountain, take the Peak to Lower Treasury for 2.6 miles of pure fun! If you are looking for the steep terrain, the extreme limits services 542 acres of in-bound double black diamond runs. The resort also offers uphill skiing to earn your turns. Mt. Crested Butte also delivers beauty and fun during the summer and fall months. The Silver Queen chairlift operates daily to transport mountain bikers, hikers, and sightseers to the top of the mountain. There are multi-use trails for activities like hiking and mountain biking like Primer, Meander and Painter Boy for example. There are also downhill designated trails for those looking for a bit more adrenaline like Awakening, Luge, and Captain Jack trails. It is always fun to hike the peak from the base area or take the Silver Queen chairlift up and hike the remaining mile to the top! The views do not disappoint either! Crested Butte Mountain Resort serves as hosts to various music and biking events throughout the seasons. Mt. Crested Butte is big, open and uncrowded. Crested Butte Mountain Resort serves as hosts to various music and biking events throughout the season. On Friday nights, mountain bikers could take in a Pinnacle bike race to test their skills against other area riders. This annual biking race series was created by the resort in 1998 to introduce a friendly, but competitive mountain bike racing to the community. On Wednesday nights, there is a free concert on the outdoor lawn. This is a great event for the whole family. Throughout the summer there are various music festivals sponsored by the Crested Butte Music Festival and the famed Fall Festival of Beers and Chili Cook-Off contest over Labor Day weekend. Mt. Crested Butte is big, open and uncrowded. Named the Last Great Colorado Ski Town, it is a true winter and summer paradise.
