Crested Butte. Unlike many other mountain ski towns, Crested Butte has retained its genuine small-town character and avoided overdevelopment, resulting in a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a refreshing down-home attitude. A National Historic District, the town has preserved much of its 19th century buildings and taking a stroll in downtown Crested Butte is like walking through the main street of a Victorian village, complete with brightly painted false front buildings and antique streetlights. In 2008, it was named one of the country’s “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
With its combination of small-town charm and rugged mountainous surroundings, it’s not surprising why Crested Butte homes have never really lacked for
